Why Visit Eugene?
You tell me. Are you visiting for a sporting event? Enjoying a festival? Have you heard about the great food? Maybe your visiting for a work trip or conference. And now you need to know why Eugene. Well…
Eugene is a vastly growing town located along Interstate 5. We are situated in the Willamette Valley, with the coast and the mountains on each side with access to two rivers, the Willamette and the Mckenzie. Our great state can be described as green. Green in the sense that we get a lot of rain so everything grows well and green in the sense that we focus on sustainability issues.
The climate is mild most of the time. Snow here is not common, about once every two years. It rains here quite a bit but if it didn’t rain it wouldn’t be so green. Other than the middle of winter and the end of summer you really only need a sweatshirt with a rain coat or an umbrella in the car.
You have the coast on the west side and the mountains on the east. Eugene is an hour and a half from Florence and two from Newport. The beaches here are not for sun bathing or swimming (I mean some people do) but on a clear day with the sun shining as you walking down the beach listening to the sound of the waves it puts your mind at ease. Or cozying up in your hotel room with some hot cocoa watching the storm roll in while playing cards with your family creates memories that will last forever. There are three big skiing areas around Eugene: Hoodoo, Mt Bachelor and Willamette Pass. The fact that Eugene is located right between the coast and the snowy mountains makes Eugene very unique.
If this is your first visit, you will immediately feel the love the town has for their Ducks. The University of Oregon is a big part of Eugene. Great school! Great football! Great campus! Not to mention the 125 year old rivalry with Oregon State University, 45 minutes away. According to an article on oregonlive.com the first game was in 1894. 1894! That was 125 years ago! Duck and Beaver blood run strong out here. The rivalry can get pretty intense but we do not let that divide us as Oregonians.
Additional there are some great festivals in Oregon. In Eugene they have the Bach Festival and Oregon Country Fair in Veneta, Junction City has the Scandinavian Festival, Mt Angel (two hours north of Eugene) has Octoberfest. On the coast you can enjoy food and wine festivals. Florence has a beautiful rhododendron festival. And theres more, too many to mention in this article. And that’s why I created Explore Eugene Enjoy Oregon. Yes you could Google these places and festivals but sometime you need first hand experience to know if that’s what you want to do with your vacation time. Vacations are about spending time with family and that time can easily be stolen away for hours of research that don’t answer your questions or showing up to an event that’s not as family friendly as you thought it was going to be.
Eugene is not only a great place to visit but its a great place to live. If you enjoy the coast or the mountains we’ve go you covered. Looking for educational experiences we have plenty of museums, universities, and hands on science centers. And if you are looking for a variety of festivals almost every weekend has something new.
Come visit us and you might want to stay.
